Female traveller first travel (solo)experience

Travelling is fun , it is an exposure to the wider world , to the beauty , to the wild , to the colors , to the culture , to the food , to the people . And solo travelling in itself is an adventure , a learning or you can say a therapy.

My experience of travelling to Nainital is here, though i wasn't entirely solo , my friend was with me but we being two females challenges were different .

So, here i will share my bit of personal experience which may be helpful for many other female solo traveller or anyone who is planning to travel  in general.

My bad experiences for which i may think twice whie travelling solo,

1. In tourist places locals , tour guides some time get harsh while selling their goods or services  and same thing happended with me it was a bit scary to get almost chased by the tour guides and the street seller . It is very common to face these in tourist place but indeed unpleasant.

2. As saftey has all been a concern , my experience is a shared cab from Kathgodam to Nainital wasn't great one.

I was sitting in the front seat and my friend was sitting back with another passenger(a man in his forties) , and she experienced some bad touch. The man was trying to put his hand oh her , he was trying to touch her shoulder , though there was enough space to sit but he was trying to move closer. It was a short distance travel so we got rid of as we reached our destination .

3. On the simillar line ,it is also another scary experience which i faced in the public during second day of travel .

My friend and i  walked up to the Eco cave garden and then suicide point and While returning back we stopped to have food at a small shop runned by an old uncle in front of Cave garden , it is very close to Kumaun university.

It was the post unlocking days of jan 2021 , so university was closed , but probably some construction work was going on .

There were 2 students and 2 man who were  may be construction worker ,working  nearby , we took our seat near these 2 man.

These 2 man were having tea while waiting for their food,  we ordered egg maggie and waited ,as the shop owner was old and solely running the shop so it was taking time for the food to get prepared and served.

One man among the two went away and started staring at us differently which was very uncomfortable and another man sitting there was also looking at us the same way.

The second man was litetalyy scaring us as his gaze was so negative . As he got the  food he glued to his seat and while drinking tea he was making loud sipping sound , he was flexing his body , and in these also he didn't forget to give constant gaze , both the man were enjoying while doing all these activity .

There were no other person at the cafe except old uncle and 2 other student who all felt bad about that atmosphere ,everyone got silent and all were at an uncomfortable , it felt very helpless as we didn't rent any vehicle and to get any vehicle was hard as  peoole take vehicle rent from the city and the travel up and return through the same vehicle , we were scared what if they follow , what if they attack it was all in my head and all the people at cafe too got little serious which was visible from the faces and , it wasn't fun at all.

It was my bad experiences but with all these, i had some different experiences than these ,which makes me ready to go forward for many more solo travel , yes definitely with confidence and a sesene of saftey intact.

My experience which push me for more solo travel,

 1. I wrote about my bad (my friend the one who faced it in cab ) experience in cab , but there was another person who was a true gentle man it was the cab driver. He was a local resident ,he was friendly and helpful . He was ready enough to stop the vehicle many times as i was feeling nausea. He had a pahadi accent , as he was saying "Bauji" in his sentences to address others. It felt good to get a ride with a nice kumaoni person.

 2. As we reached Mallital , we met a boat man on whose boat we rode . He was too a very humble person telling about the city ,some known and some unknown . It made me realised that sitting with a local and listening to their story make you feel more connected to the places and people you are visiting . I was really happy to meet him.

 3. As i wrote above about my worst experience at the shop in front of the Eco cave garden , in that too there were few  good persons whose presence made it go little easy .

The old shop owner who realised that we girls were at discomfort so he was moving his hands fast so that he could serve us fast so that we could eat and leave . He was concerned about us way seen from his face ,it felt really good to see that .

And its not only the old uncle, other two person the two student one young boy and an young girl , they were just like angels to us , as  we were searching for vehicle to leave to down town , they came voluntarily to offer help the way guy smiled gently it was very consoling and made us feel secure , they waited for us untill we finish our food. They arranged a cab ,we 4 shared it and it was really fun as we talked little about the city and tourism in Uttaralkhand .

It were the people who made my  memory special in this journey.

 4. While roaming through the Mall road in the evening i felt the real unity in diversity , as i saw people from all the Community , Hindu , Muslim , Christian and Sikhs were going for prayer and the religious places were adjacent to each other in the same premises signifying peaceful co -existance .

It was dark and late in night as we are returning back from the market and in the mall road here and there people were there eating and drinking , but we didn' face any eve tease , cat call or any bad gaze which is actually very common in night in most of the places .

 5. I think solo travelling is more fun as you get more time and give more attention to the undiscovered world , you manage thing single handedly and it boost your confidence as you move further each time and gain experience  .

 6. Travelling solo adds a lot to personal growth , there will be a sense of peace and self discovery making it special .It is all worth as you discover yourself while discovering  the undiscovered paths.

Everything have a certain amount of risk associated with , it all started with fear , confusion and uncertainity but everything is worth an experience .

For me this experience added fire to my dream to travel to find my peace , to learn things to meet people and love the world.e it was a bit scary to get almost chased by the tour guides and the street seller . It is very common to face these in tourist place but indeed unpleasant.
